The St. Louis Surge hoisted its first national trophy last August. Now, the professional women’s basketball franchise has made the first steps of “powering up” in defense of that crown.
The reigning champion of the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) released its 2015 schedule Friday. The calendar contains five home contests, which includes three match-ups against division rivals, a cross-division battle against a highly-touted WBCBL newcomer and a unique “champ vs. champ” exhibition.
The Surge (14-1 in 2014) launches the regular season with four straight games on the road, beginning with a May 2 season kickoff at WBCBL Mid-West rival Nebraska.
Then after three more divisional road contests, St. Louis kicks off its home campaign against the aforementioned Nebraska at UMSL’s Mark Twain Center on June 13.

This begins a stretch of four straight at home, concluding with a July 11 meeting with WBCBL newcomer Arkansas Hustle. The Mid-South representative won all of its exhibition games last season (10-0) and looks to top the defending champs in its first year of sanctioned play.
The Surge concludes its regular season with a day-after road trip to Illinois. If they finish as one of the top four teams within the division, St. Louis would advance to the Mid-West Divisional tournament, set for the weekend of July 18. The winner of that bracketed tournament advances to the eight-team WBCBL Championships, set for August.

An intriguing “battle of defending champs” concludes the Surge’s five-game home schedule. On July 25, St. Louis hosts the Flint Monarchs, the defending champions of the Women’s American Basketball Association (WABA). The Michigan-based team finished its inaugural, and triumphant, campaign last August with a perfect 8-0 record. Consider this one WBCBL vs. WABA.
Season tickets, which include all five home games with additional exclusive benefits, are $75 each and can be purchased at THIS LINK until May 31. Individual game tickets will go on sale in April.
