SLAM Women’s Tackle Football Adds Open Tryout This Saturday

by Brian Ledford

Due to a surge of interest this month, the St. Louis SLAM women’s professional tackle football franchise has scheduled an additional open tryout this weekend.

This Saturday, a tryout will be held from 1 pm until 3:15 pm at CBC High School (1850 De La Salle Dr., St. Louis, MO).  Registration fee is $20 (cash/money order only, no checks).

The tryout will consist of sprints, agility, strength, conditioning and football assessments. An open question and answer session will close out the tryout.

Participants are asked to bring workout clothes, shoes (both a pair to train in and a pair to walk outside in), water, a towel and, most importantly, a smile. No prior football experience is necessary.

The SLAM hosted two separate tryouts earlier this month in St. Louis and recent promotional appearances garnered enough interest for the franchise to add Saturday’s extra session.

Founded in 2003, the SLAM won the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) National Championship in 2009 and has reached the playoffs four times out of the last six WFA seasons.

Its 2015 schedule will be set at a later date.

Those who cannot make this Saturday’s tryout, but are still interested in playing for the SLAM, can contact the franchise at [email protected].
