Gateway Grizzlies starting pitcher Ja’Vaun West has been selected by Pointstreak as the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week.

West is the second Gateway pitcher to earn the honor this season. Carlyle, Ill. native Aaron Newcomb was the Pitcher of the Week in week one.

West, 24, fired seven and two thirds strong innings to help lead the Grizzlies to a 2-1 win against the Frontier Greys Sunday night at GCS Ballpark.

West (3-0) allowed only three hits and one run while earning his third win in his third start. The right-hander from Atlanta, Mo. retired 16 straight batters at one point and tied his career-high with ten strikeouts, helping the Grizzlies pick up the series win.

The former University of Indianapolis star pitched five innings allowing only one run on Monday in the Grizzlies Memorial Day win over the Greys.

After three starts, West has a 3-0 record and a 0.91 ERA. He has 24 strikeouts and only four walks.

The Grizzlies are off Monday before continuing their homestand on Tuesday with game one of their series against the Rockford Aviators. Right-hander Dejai Oliver (2-1) will make the start for the Grizzlies.
