The Gateway Grizzlies dropped both games in a doubleheader against the Schaumburg Boomers Wednesday afternoon at Boomers Stadium.

Schaumburg defeated Gateway 6-1 in game one and 2-0 in game two.

Gateway starting pitcher Dejai Oliver (2-1) struggled with his control in game one and Gateway fell behind 3-0 after two innings.

Gateway (8-4) scored their first and only run of the day in the third inning on a Tommy Richards RBI fielder’s choice to make the score 3-1.

Schaumburg (6-5) scored a run on a wild pitch in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead.

Oliver took the loss, allowing six runs on four hits and six walks in four and a third innings.

Gateway only picked up two hits in the loss.

Schaumburg raced out to an early first inning lead again in game two. An error on catcher Gabriel Molina led to a Boomers run on a Sean Mahley RBI groundout.

Schaumburg added an insurance run sixth inning on another Grizzlies error to take a 2-0 lead.

Gateway starting pitcher Aaron Newcomb (2-1) was the hard-luck loser, allowing two unearned runs on five hits in six innings. Newcomb struck out five and walked none.

The Grizzlies mustered only three hits in the game two loss.

Gateway and Schaumburg will finish off their series on Thursday night with the final game of the three-game series. First pitch is set for 8:00.
