The Gateway Grizzlies have signed pitchers Jacob Liedka and Cody Stiles for the 2014 season.

Liedka, 25, comes to Gateway with four years of professional experience. The left-hander from San Antonio Tex. pitched for Coastal Bend in the United League in 2010 before spending the previous three seasons with the Normal CornBelters.

“We’ve been impressed with Jacob ever since he came into the league in 2011,” Grizzlies manager Phil Warren said. “We’re confident he will come here and be a key contributor to our pitching staff.”

Liedka, a 6-2 205-pound left-hander, went 2-1 with Normal in 2013. In 24 games (four starts), he compiled an ERA of 3.80. Over the course of three seasons with Normal, Liedka appeared in 77 games with 20 starts. He pitched collegiately at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Stiles, 23, starts his professional career in 2014 after a successful four year collegiate career at North Carolina and Division II Nova Southeastern University.

“We’re excited to see what Cody Stiles can come in and do for us,” Warren remarked. “He has been successful at every stop and I’m confident he’ll come here and help us win some games.”

In his sophomore year at UNC, the Coral Springs, Fla. native went 4-0 with a 2.43 ERA in 12 games (eight starts).

Stiles, a 6-2 185-pound right-hander, transferred to Nova Southeastern for his final two seasons, compiling a 6-3 record.

Stiles was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 39th round of the 2009 MLB draft out of high school, but elected to attend UNC. He was a top-50 prospect nationally in high school.

The Grizzlies 2014 regular season opener is on May 16th when they take on the Traverse City Beach Bums at GCS Ballpark. Season and Group tickets are on sale now. Single-game tickets go on sale Tuesday, April 1st. For more information call 618.337.3000.
