The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that St. Louis Cardinals Minor League right-handed pitcher Andrew Pierce has received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for an Amphetamine, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension of Pierce, who is currently on the roster of the Single-A State College Spikes of the New York-Penn League, will be effective at the start of the 2014 New York-Penn League season.

Pierce pitched to a 2-2 record and a 2.11 ERA in his debut season with the State College Spikes, and he struck out (36) more than five times as many batters as he walked (seven). The right-hander did not allow a home run in his debut, and he started seven of the 12 games in which he appeared.
